Cape Winelands tasting Our First Winelands Tour for 2016!

The New Year started with a bang, we had the privilege to show off our beautiful Winelands to a family from Winnipeg, Canada.

A family of four, mom, dad, and two children aged 12 and 15 years old.

We started our Cape Winelands tasting journey at our first wine farm. Asara Wine Estate making magnificent wines is at the heart of what Asara is all about, and we were welcomed to our wine-tasting center to sample some of our established favourites as well as their exciting new wines.Β  We were met with such excellent service and of course superb wines.

At the center, which overlooks the chandelier-lit barrel maturation cellar, a wine ambassador guided us through the tasting process and discussed their wines in detail savoring their characteristics and qualities, and how they are made. Of course, the children were not old enough to taste the wine but learned how the wine is made and was given a soft drink, while their parents enjoyed the fabulous wine.

We then drove through the historical town of Stellenbosch, through Church Street, and passed the hustling vibrant streets.Β  We then took the magnificent drive over Helshoogte PassΒ and landed up at Delaire Wine Estate for our next nibble and Cape Wineland’s tasting.

Delaire Graff wines rank among the most prestigious in the Southern Hemisphere and are perfect for a Cape Winelands tasting.

A long, slow ripening season ensures world-class clarets and red wines big in structure with soft tannins and elegance. Their white wines capture the freshness of the harvest, while irresistible rosΓ© and a sparkling Brut complete an elegantly balanced portfolio.Β  Delaire Wine Estate is proud to have achieved First Growth status in South Africa.Β  A reward for creating our country’s most desirable wines on first pressing.

Besides the fantastic wines, Delaire has a lush, opulent feeling.Β  The walls are covered in beautiful art and the grounds have hand-crafted sculptures placed all over the blooming gardens.

Not only is the wine good, but the experience is a must for all who wish to sit, sip on the showcase of wines, and have the sweeping view of the Estate and our Winelands.Β  Our Canadians were extremely impressed and spent time, shopping, walking around, and taking in all the art and sculptures.

The next stop is the Spice Route.Β  The perfect place for South Africanism in every sense.Β  From their Chakalaka wine to the delicious Beer and Biltong.Β  This destination includes Cape Wineland’s tasting, brewery tasting, chocolate tasting, biltong platters, cheese platters, Art, and a children’s playground.Β  It’s for the family.Β  Sitting on the patio, we ordered their famous gourmet burgers and chips and ate like kings.Β  The family walked around this sensory journey and ate choccies, and ice cream and bought more wines. After lunch, we enjoyed sitting in their gardens and chilling.

From there we headed off to the famous Franschhoek.Β  We drove to the top of the main road, and the family got out and walked through this French-inspired town. Shopping and enjoying all the curio shops and the boutiques.Β  Stopped for coffee and leisurely met up with us when they were ready.Β  Back on the bus, we took a drive on the famous Franschhoek Mountain Pass. Β Once reaching the top, we were met with the full view of the magnificent vineyards and mountains.. a pure delight.

Each of our Winelands Day tours is tailor-made to suit the guest.Β  Our Canadian guests were extremely happy with the tour and bought many bottles of wine. We also taught them to say β€œBaie Dankie” even though when they say it, it sounds like β€œbuy a donkey”

Awesome day, with amazing food and wine, and perfect weather.
