When Wine tasting Cape Town, one can only hope that the Cape Town weather gods look out for you like they did us with an amazing 33 C and no wind. With this kind of weather to start the day we knew it was going to be a special day.
Guided Cape Town Tours picked up our two Mauritian guest and we were greeted with a surprise when a Belgian gentlemen they had met during their stay joined us for the day.
We begun our Wine tasting Cape Town adventure. Arriving in Stellenbosch, we strolled around the beautiful town and took in some history about the towns origins and its people.Β We made our way to the NG Kerk, the oldest church in Stellenbosch that was built in the late 1600βs and admired its incredible size and rich history.
Back on the bus and off we went to our first stop for wine tasting – The glorious Tokara
Wine Estate.Β Situated between the town of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek on the Hels Hoogte pass, with glorious panoramic views of Stellenbosch and its vineyards. Excellent service was provided during the tasting by Tokaraβs Ruan, what a pleasure it is to leave my guests in such good and capable hands.
Our Ladies bought a few bottles of wine and it was here that I recommended to my Belgian guest Jeffrey that he purchase a Tokara pinotage to send to his mum who owns a restaurant in the Limpopo.
We headed off to our next stop in Franschhoek, but not before we made an impromptu stop at Boschendal Wine Estate for Daya. Daya had told me that she tasted the Le Boutique from Boschendal while doing a wine course in her homeland of Mauritius. So as we passed it, quick thinking on the part of my driver John and I, we made a detour and stopped at the wine shop on Boschendal Wine Estate for Daya.Β Stunning and gorgeous gardens aplenty on this wine estate, I will definitely be making a plan to include this in my itinerary for the future.
Next stop – the opulent and classy Haute Cabriere. This farm is what Wine tasting Cape Town is all about!Β Nestled at the bottom of the Franschhoek Mountain Pass and built in an old quarry, this wine farm does not fail to disappoint.Β My personal favourite wine from this far is their Pinot Noir.
Once again, brilliant and friendly service provided the staff at Haute Cabriere by Louisa, people like this that take pride in their craft certainly make my life a pleasure when looking after guests. A few more bottles of wine were purchased by my guests at Haute Cabriere with theΒ Pierre Jourdan desert wine proving to be a favourite!
It was now lunch time and my guests where starving.Β I dropped my guests off at the top of the Franschhoek Main Rd where they were could just stroll through the French influenced vibey styled experience.Β I recommend Reubens – a high end local chef extraordinaire come genius who has flavours in his food that only a magician could dream.Β And Kalfi’s – a restaurant situated right next door that serves authentic South African food.Β My guests decided on Kalfikis and settled on having the Babotie and Seafood pasta.
At this point something sweet was in order I then decided to offer our guests a Brandy and chocolate tasting in Paarl at KWV.Β Once again this was not part of the itinerary but we managed to make a plan and squeeze this stop in.Β And we arrived at KWV cellars and were greeted and served by the delightful Carmen. I canβt stop saying how satisfying it is to watch fellow hospitality craftsmen and women ply their trade. Carmen was absolutely brilliant. Chocolates and Brandy – and more chocolates and Brandy with a few more purchases of some bottles.
At this point after the numerous purchases of wine by our guests, John and I werenβt sure if we needed to hire a sherpa or a bartender to accompany us!
Our final destination of the Winelands tour was Fairview Wine Estate in Paarl.Β Fairview Wine Estate provided my guests with gorgeous wines and mouth watering cheeses. The service staff that served my guests, were professional, friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the wines. A quick cellar tour and description of the wine making process and we were on our way home.
Another successful tour Wine tasting Cape Town, perfect weather, happy clients, lots of laughter and finally a spoil to spend a day in our beautiful Cape Winelands.
