Stellenbosch Wine Tour – Bringing in the New Year with some style

I had the pleasure of meeting and introducing 5 American ladies to their very first South African Stellenbosch Wine Tour.

The group of ladies had tasted a bit of the Cape already. Have been cycling from Simonstown to Cape Point and enjoyed New Year’s Eve on Cape Town’s funky Long Street. But now it was time to take in the Cape in style with a Stellenbosch  Wine Tour!

First stop ……..

Our first stop didn’t start with wine tasting but rather a unique coffee and tea blending experience at Vergenoegd estate. Beautifully facilitated by Vergenoegd the ladies finished their blending by taking home their very own tailor-made coffee and tea.  After which a little surprise was in store, introducing them to the farm workers that keep the vines insect-free. (You must see it for yourself!)  And off to our next stop, we went.

Finally some wine!

Along the way, we passed some Zebra and Impala. Which was to serve as a sneak peek at things awaiting them at Kruger National Park ending their African voyage. Making our way around the outskirts of Stellenbosch onto HellHoegste pass to its peak to visit Tokara wine farm. At this point, tourists can see views of the Stellenbosch wine region. And to the other side, the beginnings of the Franschhoek wine valley.

Tokara wine farm is a rare gem in that some wine farms and estates invest in style and omit substance. Tokara strikes the perfect balance between the two. This was just the wake-up call needed if the coffee blending didn’t do the trick. Tokara offers a 10-wine offering for their tasting.

Having enjoyed the tastes and sights of Tokara we were off to our next stop, the wonderful Waterford.

Waterford Wine Estate is the personification of elegance and quality. The ladies enjoyed a wine and chocolate pairing on the veranda of the courtyard. Gorgeous homemade chocolate, supreme wine, and spectacular service rounded off this magnificent wine estate.

Lunch Time

It was time for lunch and I dropped the ladies off at Guardian Peak Grill. A welcome break from the beautiful tastings already experienced from this Stellenbosch wine tour so far.

With appetites satisfied and plenty of more wine to taste, we made our way to our last stop. Arriving at the regal yet relaxing Rust en Vrede wine estate. This estate boasts an impressive array of red wines. It is one of the few vineyards that focus on producing only Red wine. With no rush to meet their dinner reservation, the ladies were able to enjoy savouring the tastes of the wine and the location of this beautiful estate.

Alas, all good things have to come to an end and we were off to the world-famous La Colombe restaurant. And on our journey back to the southern peninsula, Table Mountain was showing off her beauty.

Table Mountain Cape Town

A relaxing Stellenbosch wine tour coupled with meeting wonderful new people. I hope you enjoyed your safari in the Kruger National Park. I’d like to say it was a pleasure to meet you all. And I hope that Cape Town sees you again soon with your significant others and families.

Safe Travels and take care,

Tyrone
